I am impressed by what I read of The Shuttleworth Foundation | Supporting Social Innovation.
They are currently offering bounties for development of open source see Here Be Bounties.
These include SchoolTool for which bounties are available. It is written using an interesting set of technologies including Python.
Projects like this offer tremendous hope for the future of Africa. Definately recommended.
