Driver Issues Still Challenge Linux is quite amusing in the way it assembles "facts". I was particularly amused by comments about the complications for 64 bit architectures for vendors not willing to provide open source drivers. This is particularly amusing given that there is no 64-bit windows alternative.
Overall I think the problems are now pretty small for most desktop PC's, for laptops it is quite true that Linux is behind. I would say that Linux is now assumed to work on servers, does work on desktops with very few issues and can be made to work on most laptops but will require more skills to do so.
