So this is life working at google: rahrahfeminista2 - Like a dali painting. Thanks to Google Blog. The story is funny, but what lies behind is still a concern.
We do here a fair bit about google being an fantastic place to work and they certainly have some amazing people and great policies.
However, what are the ethics of providing everything at work so that people don't need to go home. Sure there are obvious positives in terms of flexibility etc. But what about expectations of the time you will spend at work? How does this help the staff be whole people and what about their families.
As someone who has worked from home most of the time for 6 years and expects to continue to be home based I know about the advantages of having all you need around. On the other hand I know I am still sitting here, taking a short break, working at 1am. At least at home I am in control and am around the family, I can take time to collect kids from school when needed or take them to music lessons or whatever. But if I were working the same hours at an office I would have no life outside work.
