I got a quick response to 42: Xaraya CMS from Wyome Blog: Nice Urls?.
If its a matter of the index.php still being in the URL, then that can be easily removed. We don't on xaraya.com due to the fact that there are multiple servers that we support, and each would have it's own method. It's never a wise idea to show functionality that can't be downloaded via the flagship site.
Personally, I want the opposite. I want to see how good the cms can look. mod_rewrite clearly can do this and 60% of the world will be using that so it would be a good start with docs being added to show how to do it on other web servers.
If its a matter of not using the title of the article, or whatever, in the url, then what can I say. I'd much rather have a unique url than one that can be duplicated. That would be much uglier in the long run than having an integer as the ending arg in a url.
H'mm, I don't buy this.
- It is quite simple to make sure that the first n characters are unique and if not then add an integer to the end until they are.
- Personally I always notice the url.
- When you look at migrating to a tool you need to keep the old urls for ever, exposing the internals of the tool through it's primary key is not going to help this.
- So far as I know it still helps search engine rankings.
On a more positive note, Wyome :: Xaraya and the Blogging Tool Comparison looks interesting. With a means of importing, pingback, comment feeds and spam prevention it looks like Xaraya could be a top contender for weblogs (particularly ones built into larger sites than just the blogs).
I was also impressed with the themes work such as fasttrack and daisyraegemini.
Definately one to watch
