More SunRay progress at home.
The printer is now shared globally, took only a few seconds to change the default assumption that a USB printer is local to a user to being a network printer.
Sound has moved on. Another very helpful message from Michael Gernoth solved the next problem. I can now play cd's, play mp3's, turn cd's into ogg vobis files and then play them.
Now the only oddity is that plugging in external speakers or headphones does not seem to be disabling the internal speaker in the SunRay 1G. So far by turning down the sound from the 1G and turning up the speakers means the problem is reduced (and quality goes up).
Minor details as the SunRays are still proving really good.
This morning (Election day so the 2 youngest had a day off) saw the first use of the PS2 to watch a DVD on the 19" Samsung monitor - kept 2 of ours and a visiting friend happy watching Star Wars.
Although I have had niggles in getting the sound to work it is still true that the time to setup 4 SunRay workstations has been trivial compared to installing 4 windows PC's. The time savings in a larger work environment would be immense. As for downtime - what is that ;-)
I was looking at the Sun Q205 presentations and tried persuading Jane that a V40z would be nice with it's new dual core 64bit processors. Given that I can't keep our 2 single core 64 bit processors very busy so far, she was able to get me to admit is was overkill ;-)

Re: Sound output on your Sun Ray - have you tried changing the Sun Ray settings? There are two ways to do this:
a. Run /opt/SUNWut/bin/utsettings from the Sun Ray you want to change. You don't have to be root.
b. Hit shift-props (assuming you have a props key!).
Then go to the Audio Output section and change Output Select to Auto.

Sunrays@home are indeed cool however i am still having sound problems :(
to further show off the sunray advantage try getting mythtv (www.mythtv.org) running as a server on the server then you get a tivo on every sunray
