A collection from a bit of hunting around.
Free church site tips: make an effective evangelistic church website reach your community: advice is pretty good, but I don't like the layout- making most of the content only visible a bit at a time as you hover is not very friendly (via ForMinistry - blog).
Church webmaster page: design and build good church websites that best reach the community: Better but I hate the way that when you click a link they put external sites into a frame - this is BAD.
Church web site design tips - Church123 - church websites: much better especially for a UK small Church context.

Hey,
Many thanks for that list of tips for us church webmasters (great someone else put the leg work in). I found the church123 tips to be really useful. Rather than trying to tell me about html (which I don't need as I can use frontpage) they gave really solid advice about content etc - excellent resource well found. I signed up for their free website trial and was amazed how good it was. Serously considering going down that root as it would save me hours of time and I could give other people the power to easily edit so it wouldn't all fall on my shoulders to update every week!
Thanks for your useful site.
CW.
