Ian has written Little Apps Instead of Little Frameworks. To this I say yes but more.
Absolutely little apps. But why do I need to run them all myself. There are plenty of options coming such as SXIP that will allow me to use someone elses application (running elsewhere) for login.
In another example Writeboards from 37Signals could become the place where lots of applications store their notes (well I am not sure that Writeboards is quite right for this yet, but the next generation could be).
For this to work we need light tools that install and deploy easily that work really flexibly together. To me that now means that the dynamic languages like Python are the place to be (nope, I am not interested in discussing Python vs Ruby vs PHP vs Perl vs ...).
That is why despite the feedback promoting Zope and Django I still prefer TurboGears. At least for the moment, light applications means that I can change that in the future, any decision which does not give me that flexibility feels wrong.
My preference for TurboGears also reflects that the tools it combines are my preferred choices (CherryPy, Kid and SQLObject) that puts it above both Django and Subway for me.
Of course TurboGears it is not yet quite ready for primetime, that also reflects my current interests. As does the way so many of my preferences for elements of this picture can be found at .org domains not .com.
