Jane and I went to see the new Pride and Prejudice film today.
This was something of a first, my first achieved day off and I think the first time we have been to see a film in the middle of a week day. It certainly felt odd and was hardly crowded, there were 7 of us in the auditorium.
Anyway the film itself I guess would best described as a joyful romp through the story. Lightweight and fun rather than accurate.
They seem to think that Kiera looks good wet as it seemed to rain a lot of the time. I wondered if they had saved a bit of money by reusing some of the costumes from Pirates of the Caribean for her ;-)
There was one bit that had me in stiches of laughter, when Lizzy was with her Uncle and Aunt in Derbyshire they were consulting a modern Ordnance Survey Map. That was just before they got to Pemberly.
Kiera was unconvincing with dialogue which was a wierd mixture of the modern and modern trying to be period. On the other hand we thought Matthew Macfadyen was excellent (as he was in Spooks) as Mr Darcy, as were Simon Woods (Mr Bingley), Tom Hollander (Mr Collins) and Rosamund Pike (Jane Bennet).
Still it does feel strange to go to a film at 12:30pm, but in the evening the boys are busy with Kids Club and Karate.
