Adrian's Blog: "Did God kill Jesus?" Am I really alone?
Am I really alone, or does anyone out there agree?
No agreement here. Please reflect on what you are saying about God. Do you really want to worship the kind of God that would kill his own son? How could such a God bring hope to humankind?

Dave, well at least we have consistency! I am just wondering if there is ANY of the great modern theological debates where you and I would find ourselves on the same side of the fence?
Would be interested in your further thoughts on this crucial issue - although you might want to wait till you get there in the T4G statment

Adrian. I guess we can agree with Dr. Karl Barth that "Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so".
I nearly wrote a longer response last night but decided to spend more time living in my service and sermon for this morning. I am sure something will come ;-)

Being slightly provocative but truthful, I believe that Jesus died to propitiate human anger, not to propitiate the anger of God the Father. But I do believe that Jesus had to die in order for atonement to happen. The entity that required blood was humanity, not God the Father.

To me, this simply illustrates the danger of trying to force a metaphor to its logical conclusion.

Tim,
Yep, that and not seeing any of scripture as metaphor.
