Book Meme

Pam has tagged me and I am feeling too lazy to do anything else this evening.

It feels a bit silly to not give the Bible as the answer to nearly all these questions. However, if you take it as read that the Bible is an automatic first choice for the first five questions then we can proceed.

1. One book that changed your life:

Wow. So many to choose from. I don't think any book does not change me at all.  I am struggling to choose between:

• "The Crucified God" by Jürgen Moltmann
• "Participating in God: A Pastoral Doctrine of the Trinity" by Paul Fiddes
• "The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr" edited by Claybourne Carson

How to pick, all have had huge impacts on me. H'mm I think I'll go for MLK as the biggest.

2. One book that you’ve read more than once:

I read most books more than once. Over a period of years one that has lasted (maybe surprisingly) is:

• "The Pursuit of Wow" by Tom Peters

3. One book you’d want on a desert island:

If I am really limited to only one book then I am not going for anything other than my Bible. If this is an extra to that then maybe.

• "A Celebration of Discipline" by Richard Foster

4. One book that made you laugh:

Easy.

• "Lucas out Loud" by Jeff Lucas

5. One book that made you cry:

Again easy.

• "Lucas out Loud" by Jeff Lucas

In a big way.

6. One book that you wish had been written:

I can't think of anything clever for this one.

7. One book that you wish had never been written:

I have really struggled with this one. The nearest I can think of is:

• "Evangelical Feminism & Biblical Truth" by Wayne Grudem

But although I really do not agree with this book it seems an overstatement to say it should not have been written. I am not a believer in censorship of that kind.

8. One book you’re currently reading:

I have a fair number on the go at the moment. One of them is:

• "God's Politics. Why the American Right gets it wrong and the Left doesn't get it" by Jim Wallis.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:

Got lots lined up. One of them is:

• "Karl Barth: A Future for Postmodern Theology" eds Geoff Thompson & Christiaan Mostert

I agree about the Paul Fiddes book. It's just that I got to the Vanstone book first, chronologically.
