Go and read 13 reasons why Linux should be on your desktop, then go and try a few Linux versions. My favourite is Ubuntu.

I've been using Linux for about 7 1/2 years now, and I'm very impressed by how much it has matured in that time. I think a lot of people who know of Linux only as a geek's OS might be pleasantly surprised if they tried it.
