In fact last time we were in Ikea walking through the kitchen department another customer came up to us and said "Whatever you do don't get Ikea to install at kitchen for you. The work is done by a company called Hinton Wood [(MK) Ltd] and they are useless".
Our frustration is with the following items from a kitchen supposedly finished in July:
- They drilled into a brand new dishwasher when fitting it so it can't be used and they have not yet replaced it.
- The Ikea wood laminate floor is so badly fitted it is rising up 3cm from the floor in places. The joints are no longer smooth.
- One cupboard does not have the right size back.
- Poor quality finishing of tiling around electrical sockets
Of course the experience before the kitchen was "finished" was not good.
- 3 different managers to talk to as they kept leaving
- about a month late in the first contact (guaranteed to be within 24 hours by Ikea, ours was not within 24 days despite chasing).
- Wrongly fitted all worktops and sink, ignoring the design. All had to be replaced.
Since the kitchen was fitted our experience has been:
- They never return phone calls
- Not one of their promises has been kept
- Nobody is ever available to talk to.
Today when I rang all I could speak to was the receptionist (and she was very nice and tried to be helpful), the manager was out and will ring me back (oh yeah, heard that one before). His only boss are the owners and they are away on holiday for 3 weeks (alright for some).
So I repeat my earlier advice. If you want an Ikea kitchen (and we think they are pretty ok) do not have it fitted by Ikea as they will give the work to Hinton Wood (MK) Ltd and they are a complete waste of space, time and money.
PS My earlier post on Hinton Wood Customer service is: Terrible Customer Service: Orange and Hinton Wood (MK) Ltd.
