After recent complaints (no they have not been resolved) I want to redress the balance.
During the Summer I bought some excellent cycling shoes from the Specialized Concept store at Fort Dunlop in Birmingham (on my way past going to pre-ordination retreat).
However, 2 weeks ago when out cycling with Jane the inside end of the main strap caught on the crank and suddenly pulled completely out. This is a solid ratchet strap so without it the shoe was completely useless.
Anyway today we went to Birmingham and took the shoes back. They instantly exchanged the shoes with no quibbles or hassle whatsoever, we very impressed with the service.
Jane was also able to try 3 road bikes for size (one of which they assembled from it's box for her). None were quite right. She really wants a lightish road bike with drop handlebars, 28mm tyres, rack and mudguard fittings and women's geometry on a 52cm frame. I also want Tiagra or 105 spec gear/brake levers as I think they are much easier to operate than Sora (which has a small lever on the side for the change to a smaller cog). In the Specialized range that means something between the Dolce and Tricross. We want it as light and fast as possible while being able to cope with light touring and Sustrans off road cycle routes (something like a woman's version of the Trek Pilot 1.2 we have).
While we were there I got a new crash hat (mine is more than 5 years old with 2 minor crashes) while Jane got some shorts, a winter top and a new saddle.
I am sure we spent more because they were so helpful and pleasant. A really nice shop (with 3 helpful staff), well worth a visit (especially if like us you like the Body Geometry kit).
