    As an American who also happens to be a Christian, I would actually have to say that as a whole the American church *is not* too macho, BUT, there is most definitely a sub-culture within the American church that believes this and tries to promote this idea that Western ideas regarding masculinity are somehow exactly the same as biblical ideas regarding masculinity. Mark Driscoll is one who comes to mind who seems to have really messed up views regarding what makes one a 'real' man.

    Mark Driscoll is one good and extreme example. There are many others who do this in a more subtle way as Dan points out when he lists non feminine roles in the church that men choose not to do.
