Sexual and Gender Boundaries in Pastoral Counselling

In Locusts & Honey: Sexual and Gender Boundaries in Pastoral Counseling John asks:

How do you think pastors should address gender boundaries in counseling?

Why do we think that there are only dangers when counselling people of the opposite gender?

To me in all these situations it is important to have thought ahead and to be aware of what the potential issues are. We need to be concerned with anything that acts against openness, visibility and transparency in what we do.

A very good point. Sexual orientation, among other dynamics, adds further complication to the subject.
Are there standardized guidelines or policies for UK Methodist pastors?
